CountdownCountdown is a long-running game show in the United Kingdom. Countdown has run since 1982 and shows no sign of ending its broadcasts. In fact, when the original host of Countdown (Richard Whiteley) died in 2005, he was replaced by a new host, Des Lynam, and the show continued. Countdown has three rounds. The first involves a Scrabble-type game, where a player is given nine random letters and asked to make the longest word possible with them. The second round involves arithmetic and numbers, while the final round requires a player to solve an anagram in the least amount of time. Because Countdown is two-thirds a word game, many of the best Scrabble players in the U.K. have appeared as contestants on the show. Mark Nyman is connected to Countdown, because he was the producer of the show from 1990 to 2002. Mark Nyman has appeared on-screen many times as a judge. Before his time as producer of Countdown, Mark Nyman was a contestant. In fact, he appeared on Countdown at the age of 16, in only Countdown's second year on air (1983).
