Jim Kramer - U.S. National Scrabble Champion

Gentleman Jim Kramer has had a distinguished career, including a 1st place finish in the 2006 U.S. National Scrabble Championship.

Jim Kramer has competed in 15 different U.S. National Scrabble Championship tournaments, making Kramer a mainstay in the tournament Scrabble scene. Jim Kramer also has represented the United States at the World Scrabble Championship on four occasions.

The U.S National Scrabble Championship

"Gentleman" Jim Kramer has had three top ten finishes in the U.S. Scrabble Open, a tournament which is open to all Scrabble players who can qualify by playing into the tournament.

Kramer finished 4th in the 1998 U.S. Scrabble Championship and 8th in the 2005 National Scrabble Championship. In 2006, Jim Kramer finally broke through and won the biggest SCRABBLE tournament in America.

The World Scrabble Championship

Jim Kramer represented the U.S. in the last four World Scrabble Championship events, in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007. In 2001, Jim Kramer finished 3rd in the event. In 2003, Jim Kramer finished 5th overall, which was the highest finish by any American player that year.

Gentleman Jim

Scrabble players nicknamed Jim Kramer "Gentleman Jim", because he is well-liked and highly respected among the American Scrabble playing fraternity. Kramer's career consistency has led to the high degree of respect given to the native of Minnesota.

Jim Kramer began playing in tournaments in 1983 and his record in the second half of his career is much higher than his career win percentage would indicate.

Genius

In November of 2006, Jim Kramer faced "Genius", a Scrabble-playing computer which used RealNetworks Scrabble software. Jim Kramer won a three-game match against Genius, 2 games to 1. In the third and decisive game, Jim Kramer won by only one point, 442-441.
