Cappeletto was featured in the Stefan Fatsis Scrabble book, Word Freak, and was noted by Fatsis as Scrabble's first child prodigy. Brian Cappeletto is at least ten years younger than many top Scrabble players, as he is 38 years old at present.

Around the same time as his appearance Word Freak, Brian Cappelletto also appeared in the documentary Scrabylon. In Scrabylon, Brian Cappelletto is one of several Scrabble players featured at the 2001 World Scrabble Championship.

Brian Cappelletto Scrabble Bio

Brian Cappelletto made his first appearance in a major SCRABBLE competition in 1987 at the age of 18. Brian Cappelletto entered the 1987 United States National Scrabble Championship as a Division 1 player. He played in 21 games of Scrabble, winning 16 of them.

Since that time, Brian Cappelletto has competed in 10 more U.S. National Scrabble Championships. Cappelletto won the US NSC in 1998 and finished in the top three two other times.

Brian Cappelletto's career win percentage is 69.4%, with an overall record os 1711 wins, 749 losses and 14 ties. Cappelletto has a current Scrabble rating of 1955, though he peaked at a whopping 2122.

Currently, Brian Cappalletto is ranked 4th among U.S. SCRABBLE players. He was once the #1 U.S. player. He finished 6th in the 2006 U.S. NSC, but placed 1st in the same tournament in 2005.

Interestingly, Brian Cappelletto has not been able to match his feats in the years prior to Word Freak and Scrabylon. Brian Cappelletto won The World Scrabble Championship in 2001, but has not competed i the event since that year.

Word Freak

Word Freak is a great read for someone new to the world of competitive Scrabble. The book is written as an insider's view of one particular U.S. National Scrabble Championship, detailing several competitors and characters at that year's competition.

Word Freak is not only Stefan Fatsis personal experience at the U.S. NSC, but also gives Scrabble strategy tips and a short history of Scrabble competitions and tournaments.

The full title of Word Freak is Word Freak: Heartbreak, Triumph, Genius and Obsession in the World of Competitive SCRABBLE Players. Brian Cappelletto is one of the more colorful figures detailed in Mr. Fatsis's book.
