Scrabble Online
Internet Scrabble
Playing Scrabble online lets you simulate all the word game fun you’ve experienced with your family over the dinner table through the years, except you can play in front of your computer against people or computer opponents. The Scrabble rules used are the official Hasbro rulebook, while you can play using either the TWL or SOWPODS dictionary. Heck, Internet Scrabble players can find a website which allows house rules, for that matter.
To help you find good online sources for Scrabble games, I’ve compiled a list of some of the best Scrabble websites on the Internet. One of these sites is the official Scrabble website, while others offer other online games or optional word games to play.
Pogo Online Scrabble
Pogo.com is one of the best Scrabbble sites going right now. Pogo offers all kinds of online games, from word games like Scrabble to puzzle games, virtual card games, board games, old style arcade games and casino games. Pogo has over 100 playing options and it’s free to play. Registration is required, but it’s quick, while you can play for prizes. All you have to do is download the game software and you’re ready to go.
The Pogo Scrabble games uses the classic rules, with options to play up to 3 opponents at a time. There’s a system in place to match you versus opponents at your skill level according to your win-loss history, or according to your National Scrabble Association rating. If you want to play a computer opponent, you have your choice of beginner or expert. Also, you can select traditional, house or a al carte rules.
This site is advertised on the Hasbro site itself, so you know it has the Scrabble seal of approval (for what that’s worth).
Internet Scrabble Club
You can also join the Internet Scrabble Club and you can play Scrabble in English, French, Dutch, Italian or Romanian. At the time I’m writing this, there are 1023 games in progress and 2994 players online.
The Pixie Pit Online Scrabble
The “Pixie Pit” is a UK based Scrabble site for 2-, 3- and 4-player games. If you get tired of those options, there’s also a “Super Scrabble” option. Players can play Scrabble in English, German, French, Italian, Latin, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Spanish, Portugeuse and “Millie’s” language, an affectionate mom who played Scrabble at the Pixie Pit. And yes, you read “Latin”. Latin Scrabble games are supported.
The Pixie Pit Scrabble site offers practice rooms and trial rooms, as well as information on tile frequencies, word lists and a Scrabble Hall of Fame. There’s even a “no dictionary room” for players who are sick of all these Scrabble helper sites.
The Pixie Pit has been around for years and is one of the best online Scrabble communities.
Quadplex Online Scrabble
Quadplex Scrabble has several advantages: no ads, your own rating, more settings and participation in chat. At Quad Plex, you can play Scrabble against live or robot opponents, as well as have access to statistics and Scrabble forums to discuss your issues about Scrabble.
Online Scrabble Games
There’s four of the top Scrabble websites you can play at online. Each of these sites offers a slightly different product, so you should be able to find one that suits your Scrabble playing needs perfectly.
