How to Play Scrabble Blast

Playing the Scrabble Blast Video Game

Yesterday I mentioned “Scrabble Blast” in another post, so today, I decided to post an article called “How To Play Scrabble Blast”. In this online game, which is kind of a cross between classic Scrabble and the old video game, Tetris, players try to solve word puzzles while the game board slowly changes. Before Hasbro demanded that many Internet gaming websites take down their versions, Scrabble Blast was a favorite with online gamers.

These days, you can still find Scrabble Blast on sites given the Hasbro seal of approval, so I figured I would go over the rules and give our word game fanatics the basic Scrabble Blast how-to guide.

Scrabble Blast Basics

Game play starts with a board full of letter tiles, which looks like a Scrabble board, except a board that is completely full of letter tiles. The letter combinations are throw together randomly, and you have to find word patterns in them. Either up-down, across or diagonally, you have to find words amidst the random letters. When you do, use the toggle to highlight the letters in the pattern you want them, spelling out words.

The longer the word you spell, the more points you get. The more points the letters are worth (like in Scrabble), the more points you get. So the point of the game is to pick out words from the letter grid and highlight them to add to your point total.

The complication is that there are “bomb tiles”. As the game goes on, the bomb tiles move down from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen. If a bomb ever reaches the bottom of the board, you lose.

Scrabble Blast Word Finding

As you make words, the word will be removed from the gameboard and the nearby letters will “drop down”. In this way, you’ll see bomb eventually drop down the game board. The bomb squares are high risk and high reward, because they can be worth bonus points if you use their letter and get rid of them. My suggestion is to rid yourself of the bomb tiles as quick as possible.

Staying Alive in Scrabble Blast

The thing to remember is to keep the game alive. The longer you go, the more points you score. The ultimate goal is to make new levels and score the most points you can score. Scrabble Blast challenges you to find words in a letter grid similar to a Scrabble board, but to do so quickly.

Get Minimum Scores

Try to focus on words that will give you around 20 points or more, since this will make it worth the time and trouble of scoring. Remember to use double letter and double word scores whenever possible, while using the big scoring letters as much as you can.

Don’t Use Proper Nouns

As a general rule, don’t use words that you have to capitalize. Proper nouns are names, brand names, titles, acronyms and other words that are used to name something formally. These words are almost never allowed in Scrabble, and Scrabble blast uses the same word rules as classic Scrabble.

Where To Play Scrabble Blast

The problem with Scrabble Blast these days is that it’s hard to find, because Scrabulous is now Lexulous and big name gaming sites like Yahoo Games are no longer allowed to offer games with “Scrabble” in the title. There are places you can go to play Scrabble Blast, though, like Pogo and the Hasbro official site.

Just don’t use use the word “Scrabble” to much on a website anymore. Hasbro won’t like it.

Have fun playing Scrabble Blast.
