How to Join a Scrabble Club

How To Join a Scrabble Group

“Scrabble Clubs” are local organizations for Scrabble enthusiasts, who meet to play their favorite word game competitively, improve their collective word skills or perhaps even carpool to nearby tournaments. Knowing where and how to join a Scrabble club opens up a whole new world of wordgame opportunities for you, especially if you’ve grown jaded about online Scrabble players and their excessive use of Scrabble solvers, helpers and cheats.

Despite the evils of Internet word games and the worldwide web in general, joining a Scrabble club is made a lot easier with the help of the Net. Here’s a quick guide to joining your local Scrabble association.

Visit ScrabbleClub.com

At “Scrabble Club Online”, you can learn about the North American network of Scrabble players and find out where the nearest chapter to you is found. While the list of Scrabble clubs here isn’t massive, you will be able to find Scrabble groups in the ten or so biggest U.S. cities and the top 3-4 Canadian cities.

Besides visiting these clubs’ online sites and getting to know them in person, you’ll have access to resources, updates and upcoming events. You’ll also be able to perform Scrabble searches on whatever word game subject you’re interested in.

Join the National Scrabble Association

Visit the National Scrabble Association website and join the NSA. (Yeah, I know that “NSA” more famously stands for “National Security Agency”.) This NSA organizes tournaments in North America and is the leading American Scrabble organization.

Besides getting information about local Scrabble groups and “casual clubs”, you can enroll your kids in “School Scrabble” to encourage their word skill and vocabulary development, get a subscription to the “Scrabble News”, buy “wordgear” and other Scrabble memorabilia or even play Scrabble online.

Enter a Scrabble Tournament

You can also learn from the Scrabble Clubs site, the National Scrabble Association sites or a number of other Scrabble websites where the nearest local Scrabble tournament will be. Go with your entry fee and enter the tourney to see how good these people are. One warning: if you are only used to beating your family around the dinner table, you might be surprised at how good these people are at Scrabble.

Most of the tournament level Scrabble players have joined their own Scrabble club and play competitively all the time. They also learn the tricks to Scrabble improvement and therefore become good Scrabble players.

If you do enter a Scrabble tournament and show your skills, you’ll be able to network with the players there and learn where the best Scrabble club in your region is.

Whether you wash out in your first organized Scrabble competition or not, you’ll probably want to join a Scrabble group and enjoy regular competitive club nights. So hopefully learning how to join a Scrabble club will help you improve your game and enjoy your development as a Scrabble player.
